What is Rimadyl?

RIMADYL (pronounced “Rim-a-dill”) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) approved by the FDA for once- or twice-daily dosing to relieve the pain and inflammation in the joints of dogs with arthritis. It's also used to reduce fever. Rimadyl requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

For:

Dogs (over six weeks of age)

Benefits:

Cautions:

Do not give it to cats. Keep away from children. Tell your veterinarian if your pet has: an allergy to aspirin or any other NSAID; an ulcer or bleeding in the stomach; liver or kidney disease; congestive heart failure; fluid retention; bleeding disorders; heart disease; high blood pressure. Talk to your veterinarian before giving any other prescription or over-the-counter medications to your pet. Should not be given to pregnant or lactating dogs or dogs used for breeding.

What happens if I miss giving a dose:

Give the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and give the next one as directed. Do not give a double dose of the medication.

What are the possible side effects of Rimadyl:

Contact your veterinarian in case of serious side effects of bloody, black, or tarry stools, or blood in vomit. If any of the following serious side effects occur, stop giving Rimadyl and seek emergency veterinary care: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; swelling of the lips, tongue or face; hives), muscle cramps, open sores in the mouth, rapid weight gain due to fluid retention, seizures, or abdominal cramping. You can continue with the medication if your pet experiences any of the following less serious side effects, however, talk to your veterinarian about it: headache, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea or constipation, depression, fatigue or weakness, or dry mouth. Other side effects may also occur.

Storage:

Store the medication at room temperature.

Directions:

Give this medication as directed by your veterinarian. Rimadyl should be given with food and keep plenty of water available for your pet.
